October 16, 2026, Atlanta, GA — The United States Artificial Intelligence Institute (USAII®) announced the launch of a new book by Ajit K Jha, Chief Product Partner, USAII®, titled AI Governance: The Intelligence Leadership Mandate, during the ATD SUPER Southeast Conference 2026 in Atlanta.
The book was officially unveiled by Timothy Brown, President, ATD Greater Atlanta; Ajit K Jha, Chief Product Partner, USAII®; and David Friedson, SVP – Partnerships, USAII® and Founder, Synchronize Partners.
Written for business leaders, board members, decision-makers, senior executives, and professionals responsible for navigating AI-driven transformation, AI Governance: The Intelligence Leadership Mandate presents AI governance not merely as a technology or compliance requirement, but as a fundamental leadership responsibility.
As organizations rapidly expand their use of Generative AI, AI Agents, autonomous systems, and AI-assisted decision-making, the ability to govern these technologies responsibly is becoming increasingly important to enterprise strategy, risk management, reputation, workforce transformation, and long-term business value.

Recent research highlights the urgency. Deloitte's global boardroom research found that 66% of surveyed board members and executives believed their boards still had limited or no knowledge or experience with AI, while 31% said AI was not yet on their board agenda. At the same time, IBM research released in 2026 found that only 11% of surveyed technology executives considered their organizations completely prepared for AI-agent deployment at scale, while two-thirds reported being accountable for AI systems they did not fully control.

These findings reinforce a growing leadership challenge: AI adoption is advancing faster than many organizations' governance capabilities.
“AI governance can no longer sit only with technology, risk, or compliance teams. It has become a leadership mandate,” said Ajit K Jha, Chief Product Partner, USAII®. “As AI increasingly influences decisions, customer experiences, workforce models, investments, and competitive strategy, leaders need to understand not only what AI can do, but how it should be governed. This book is designed to help executives and decision-makers ask the right questions, establish accountability, and create governance systems that allow innovation and trust to coexist.”
From AI Governance to Enterprise Value
A central premise of the book is that AI Governance is the operating system of the intelligent enterprise.
Rather than approaching governance solely through regulation and risk, the book examines how effective governance can support innovation, trust, investment discipline, organizational resilience, and sustainable enterprise value.
The book is designed to translate complex AI governance concepts into practical leadership decisions. Its framework includes leadership scenarios, case studies, boardroom questions, actionable leadership steps, and governance models intended to help executives move from awareness to implementation. The need for this capability is becoming more pronounced as organizations move toward agentic AI. McKinsey's 2026 research on responsible AI found that only about one-third of organizations surveyed had reached higher maturity levels in areas including strategy, governance, and agentic AI governance—suggesting that organizational oversight continues to lag behind technological deployment.
“AI is moving from assisting people to increasingly initiating, coordinating, and executing work,” Jha added. “That changes the governance conversation fundamentally. Leaders must now think about decision rights, accountability, human oversight, security, organizational controls, and the boundaries within which AI Agents should operate.”
A Timely Launch at ATD SUPER Southeast Conference 2026
The book was launched during the ATD SUPER Southeast Conference 2026, held October 15–16 at AmericasMart Atlanta. The conference brought together professionals from talent development, HR, organizational development, leadership, instructional design, people operations, consulting, and related disciplines. USAII® also participated in the conference through its AI Certification Learning Journey executive session and exhibition presence.
The setting reflects another important theme of the book: AI governance is not solely a technology issue. It also requires organizations to build AI literacy, strengthen leadership capability, prepare their workforce, establish responsible-use cultures, and continuously adapt as AI evolves.
With AI Governance: The Intelligence Leadership Mandate, USAII® aims to contribute to that leadership conversation by helping executives move beyond the question of “How should we adopt AI?” toward the more consequential question:
“How should we lead and govern an intelligent enterprise?”
